Hotel Silva

We'd heard about this two-star hotel from other Via Transilvanica (VT) hikers. They said the staff were friendly, it was clean and well placed for the route, but that the building was showing its age. That all proved accurate. Our room was a bit worn but clean and comfortable. Don't be put off by the single beds' appearance, ours were really comfortable. We had a rear-facing room that was very quiet. With the screened balcony door open all night, it stayed cool and fresh, and sleeping under the duvet was bliss. The staff's kindness made the stay. We arrived late Friday afternoon needing laundry, but every service was closed until Monday. The woman at reception offered to have a family member wash our roughly two kilos of clothes at home. She first waved away our offer to pay. When she brought the laundry to the room later, we insisted on giving her 20 Lei, about CDN $6.40, which she eventually accepted with many thanks. There's a lovely terrace with picnic tables across from reception on the first floor, overlooking the train station. We ate a picnic dinner with food from nearby markets and watched the trains and passengers come and go. Great people watching. On departure morning, we got two nice coffees to go from the restaurant. We paid 240 Lei with the VT hiker discount. Since our stay was on August 15, Assumption Day in Romania, it was great value. Recommended.

At just 50m from the train station, the location is incredibly convenient. Comfortable rooms, a lovely atmosphere, friendly service, and great value. Perfect choice, recommended!

The receptionist was very helpful with local advice, and her good English made things much easier since I don't speak Romanian at all. The hotel is right across from the railway station, handy when arriving by train. I spent three nights here and really enjoyed it. The rooms are clean and practical, and my rear-facing room had a balcony and was very quiet. I think it deserves more than two stars. Definitely recommend.

The rooms and food are average quality, and the prices are average too. You can leave your car in their unsecured parking for several days.
