Scandic Goteborg Central

The bar is nice and the staff are friendly. This modern hotel has a central Gothenburg location near the main train station, with contemporary design and facilities throughout. The rooms are bright, modern, and have up-to-date amenities. The buffet breakfast is very good, and the central spot is something I appreciate as a guest.

The worst part was how unwelcome my family and I felt. We had come all the way from Thailand, and the staff treated us coldly and dismissively. Honestly, it felt discriminatory, and we have never had such a disrespectful hotel experience. We only wanted a few minutes in the lobby to eat takeaway together. There were four of us, and the table in our room was tiny. There were plenty of empty tables, but staff told us to leave and eat in our room. When I asked why, nobody gave a clear explanation. The security guard, a woman with long black hair, said it was a common rule in Sweden, as if I should know, and told me the manager would not be available until Monday. She asked if I wanted to write the manager an email myself. We understand it was a restaurant area, and we were not staying long. It felt like the rules mattered more than basic kindness or the fact that we were paying guests on vacation. At reception later, my key card stopped working. While I waited, the same guard was gossiping in the staff room and staring at me, which made an already uncomfortable situation humiliating. This is embarrassing for the Scandic brand. We will never come back, and I would warn other travelers, especially international guests, not to expect hospitality or respect here.

We got a really nice room for a great price, with pull-down bunk beds for the kids. Breakfast had a good range each morning, from cereal and pastries to hot food. Would recommend.

The breakfast was varied, delicious, and had plenty to choose from. The location is the hotel's strongest point too. The rooms are small, cleaning could be better, and the staff felt very cold and not very guest friendly. There were no amenities in the room, not even complimentary water.
