Hotel Sven Vintappare

This is a cozy, quirky little hotel full of character. If you’re after plastic, chrome, and every modern extra, this won’t be your place. The old building has sloping floors, beamed ceilings, creaking stairs, and a proper key hanging on a peg. Check-in is simple with a door code, though you’ll need to give the settled front door a firm push. Remember, one of the two doors only opens from outside and the other only from inside. Our room had windows on two sides, comfortable beds, a desk, table and chairs, and a little closet. The lighting could be adjusted, and flickering imitation candles added to the feel. The bathroom was small, as you’d expect in a centuries-old building, but the toilet worked, the shower was hot and powerful enough, and everything was provided, including a floor scraper for after showering. The toiletries smelled nice. Breakfast was good: fresh bread, croissants, eggs, juice, smoothie, ginger shots, yogurt, cereal, tea, and coffee. No smell of bacon or poorly scrambled eggs, which was a joy. A cheerful, helpful staff member made sure we had everything. The breakfast room is small, but that’s part of the experience. We’d happily come back and recommend it to a select few to keep the place a little secret.

We loved Hotel Sven Vintappare. The staff were fantastic and very helpful with questions and recommendations, and the breakfast was lovely. Before heading down, we could smell fresh croissants drifting up to our room. The central Stockholm location made it easy to walk to most of the places we wanted to see. A couple of things to keep in mind: the stairs are steep and spiral, and with only two rooms per floor, some rooms involve quite a climb. There’s also a fair amount of downtown street noise. The hotel provided earplugs, and a noise machine drowned most of it out for me.

The Old Town location is unique and charming, with plenty of genuine history to experience. The staff were very friendly and helped make our stay memorable.

Veronika was awesome, and the customer service really stood out. The stay was very comfortable, with a great breakfast and afternoon Fika. The hotel has loads of character too, dating all the way back to 1607. Five stars was an easy call.
