First Camp Umeå

The tent area is much too close to the highway. The traffic is so loud it feels like vehicles could run you over. Some of the showers weren't working either.

There were plenty of activities for children, which was great. We took our motorhome, though, and the site was noisy because it sits beside a busy road. The grounds looked a little tired, even though the facilities were clean. We had booked mini golf in advance but didn't use it, and they wouldn't refund us.

There are regular shows and lots for kids to do here, including tennis courts and football fields, and the atmosphere is friendly. It also brought back memories of visiting campsites in Sweden as a child 20 years ago. Still, our cottage had dust under the sofa, and the cottages and service buildings seemed dated, with peeling paint and old appliances.

The showers and toilets were very clean and hardly busy at all. We stayed two nights in August in a two-person cottage at The first Umeå. The room was okay, but you need to bring your own sheets and pillowcases or pay to rent them. There were only a few frying pans and spoons in the kitchen, so cooking for yourself would be difficult as a backpacker. The receptionist was very nice and answered all our questions. We also wanted to rent bicycles, but they only had one size, which we couldn't ride. I hope they offer different sizes.
