The location is handy, just a short walk from the centre and close to some really great restaurants and the art museum. WiFi worked well, too. The rooms are small but functional, the beds are comfortable, and everything was kept very clean, even more so than at some other hotels I've stayed in. It's a well-kept place with a thoughtful renovation. The staff were kind and wonderful, and shared some history of the area. I also enjoyed the smallest museum! Breakfast was good. I'd happily come back 😉

The rooms are small, and the bathrooms are shared by everyone on one floor in the main building. If you know that beforehand, it won't be a surprise. We had a nice stay.

A great price and service for solo travellers, especially if you're on a budget. Gamla Fängelset was more than worth it! The location is very nice, and breakfast was great, with loads of vegetarian and vegan choices. Shared spaces were clean, and kitchen access was included. Both reception staff were friendly and helpful, and accommodated as much as I needed. They're easy to reach by email or phone, too. They even helped return my rental bike to the bike shop five minutes away, which they regularly work with. I'd recommend it.

The old prison building is really neat, and the rooms are clean. It's fairly central without being right in the middle of everything, and there's plenty of parking. The staff are friendly, and the value is excellent.

How often do you get the chance to sleep in a 150-year-old prison? This place is super cool, and still more comfortable than most hostels. The rooms, bathrooms, and showers were all very clean, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. They did my laundry for an extra 50kr and really wanted to make sure I had a fun time in Umeå. Great value. I'd absolutely stay again!
