After a hike, this is a great place to stop for lunch. The local staff are outgoing, the atmosphere inside is lovely, and prices are reasonable. If gulaš is on the menu, you have to try it. We loved it.

We had tasty stew that was the best value for money we’d found in Slovenia so far, and dining here wasn’t expensive. The food, atmosphere, and service were all extraordinary. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, and even kept our little toddler entertained.

We really liked the food, especially the cabbage salad, goulash with sour cabbage, and grilled trout. The service could have been better, though. When we arrived, we were asked to wait without being told why. It turned out they were cleaning a table, which was fine, but it would have helped to know straight away. At 8:55 pm we ordered another glass of wine and a beer. By 9:05, staff were cleaning tables around us, brushing away crumbs, and turning off lights. We understand and respect working hours, but it would be better to tell guests in advance when the kitchen or bar is closed, instead of making them feel rushed.

The family-run Pension is about a four-minute walk from the lake, and on a clear day the balcony gives you a lovely mountain view. Grab a few beers or some wine and enjoy it. The service is among the best you’ll find here. They treat you like an old friend and give great hiking recommendations. They also suggested getting Bohinj cheese from the manufacturing plant about an eight-minute drive away, and it was worth it. Make sure to mention when you arrive if you want breakfast the next day. I’d say get it: there’s plenty of food, and the lard is delicious and just right before a hike.
