Hotel Solisko

We came from London and were surprised by the prices. Coffee and food here cost more than in much of the City of London.

I stayed with my family last weekend, and on Saturday around 8 pm someone we didn't know got into the hotel spa and took money from my locker in the changing room. I reported it to the police. The spa lockers have poor security, with locks partly made of plastic that seem easy to open. There was no one monitoring entry, no mechanical access control, and nothing to ensure only hotel guests could get in. Be careful about leaving anything there, and about people nearby who may not be staying at the hotel. The hotel's response left me very unhappy. They said it was my fault for bringing money to the spa and that they don't control who comes in and out of the hotel or other similar areas. They also said they had a lot of work, though we saw on camera that there were at most four people working on the first floor at the time. There was one person at reception, nobody in the spa, and three waiters in the restaurant. I still haven't received either a formal or informal apology. I was in apartment number 2, where the living room couch had several red and brown stains. I don't want to think they were blood, but it was very unpleasant. The hotel may look like a four-star place, but my experience was very bad.

After a hard day of hiking, we stopped in for a quick beer. It was good and reasonably priced, and the view across the Tatra Mountains was spectacular. The hotel has a big outdoor seating area looking over Strbske Pleso. It gets busy in peak season, but I've always found a table, and service is fairly quick. The staff were friendly and spoke both Slovak and English, which helped.

I can't wait to visit again. Hotel Solisko sits right beside the picturesque lake Štrbské pleso, and the rooms are very nice. The food and service were excellent, and wellness is included, with massages available at a very favorable price. Hotel manager Katka, chef Martin, and the rest of the staff were all friendly and helpful.
