We arrived at 9 pm with nowhere to stay, and Miss Pong was happy to help us from the moment we showed up. The service here went above and beyond.

Mrs. Pong kept saying she'd sort out somewhere for us to stay, but on checkout morning she wasn't there when we needed an answer. We had agreed to meet at 11 a.m., our scheduled checkout time, so she could tell us about the next accommodation. Instead, another staff member said she'd gone into the city and wouldn't be back for an hour. I was seriously ill and unable to move, so having to scramble for somewhere new was extremely stressful. If Mrs. Pong had simply said she couldn't arrange anything, we would have managed it ourselves. The repeated assurances and then her disappearance made everything harder. This came after a difficult stay. The sheets had yellow stains, and when we asked for fresh ones, we were told they were clean and weren't given a replacement. The balcony door didn't seal properly, so insects and mosquitoes got in and left us with lots of bites. When we asked about adding a night, Mrs. Pong first said she'd arrange another room, then said she'd contact friends at other hotels to find us a place. We repeatedly asked for updates, but she kept saying she'd take care of it.

The stairs to the top floor are steep, narrow, and slant awkwardly. Anyone older or carrying bags should be very careful, as they could easily cause an accident. Also, none of the TVs in the building work, something the owner acknowledged, though that didn't affect my stay. What made this a four-star stay for me was the fantastic position at one end of Ao Nang beach, just off the main road and still very quiet. The beach and sunsets are only a three-minute walk away. My room was quiet and clean, with a wonderful balcony view. If you stay here, I'd try for room A8, which was mine. I paid about B1,000 per night.

SeaWorld Guesthouse isn't fancy, but my room was clean, comfortable, and had the basics I needed. It's also an easy walk to Ao Nang Beach, with the city center close by, so getting around was simple. If you're after luxury, this may not be your place, but it suited my budget and let me stay near the action without spending a fortune. The host made the trip especially easy. She helped me get a SIM card, booked my bus, and shared advice on getting around. I felt like I had my own tour guide, and her warmth and help made the stay enjoyable.
