Ascella Bangkok Hotel

There was a strong mold smell in the room, and with my allergy I couldn't stay in those conditions. I'd mentioned it in my special request on booking, but the staff wouldn't move me to another room or approve a free cancellation, so I ended up paying for nothing. There's mold in the lobby too, as the photo shows. Beware of these scammers.

We also had to keep waiting for the lift, which is too small. The room access path has odd bumps and uneven ups and downs that could make someone trip, a real safety concern. When we asked the receptionist for a buggy ride just to the outside area, they quickly told us to walk. It felt dismissive, and left us wondering whether the buggy service works or is meant for guests at all. I've visited Bangkok several times and stayed at different hotels, but this experience didn't measure up.

My first night was great in the deluxe king room, though I initially went to the sister property, Ascella Pratunam Hotel, instead of Ascella Hotel. After that, the superior twin room made the rest of the stay a nightmare. It had no window or sunlight, was always dim, and the automatic perfume spray set off my allergies. I had to take medication, and it still affected my day and work. The price was the same, but the facilities were very different. Before booking I asked about the difference and was told only that the beds varied, single versus double, and that everything else would be the same. The staff blamed me for not asking about a window, and wouldn't switch me to another room. They didn't even check whether one was available. Getting a receipt was also a problem: the morning staff couldn't issue one, and the evening staff got it wrong. First and last time here.

This new hotel is affordable, and the rooms are clean. The location works really well for shopping: Pratunam and Platinum are within walking distance, and Central World is about a 20-minute walk, which beats being stuck in traffic. There’s a Singaporean uncle on staff who’s really sweet and helpful. He chatted with us and shared tips. Hospitality on point :) Highly recommend.
