Castle Black Bangkok - Hostel

The lobby and sitting area had a lovely collection of toys and collector ornaments on display, and there’s a little complimentary coffee and quick-bite corner too. The owner was helpful when I booked from abroad and shared the details I needed. It’s a well-kept place in a great spot, and the hostel stay was affordable and comfortable. Cleanliness could have been better, but it wasn’t a major problem for us. Worth what we paid!

This hostel is tucked into a side street, so it’s really quiet, and the modern rooms are clean and nicely designed. We paid about 25€ for a night through Agoda, which felt like a great price. Our room had a small balcony, though it was too hot to sit out there, plus towels, a hair dryer, and a mini fridge with two small water bottles, instant coffee, creamer, and Ovomaltine. That last bit was incredible! The staff were very helpful, and there’s a snack and coffee table in the lobby. You can wash and dry clothes in the small laundry for around 100 Baht. The fantasy and sci-fi style runs through the place, with different action figures and collectibles displayed on every floor. We’ll be back 🥳🥰🇹🇭

Castle Black is comfortable and fairly inexpensive, with firm beds, big soft pillows, and hot showers. There are two free bottles of water in the small fridge, a boiler for hot water and coffee, and a downstairs table where you can refill bottles and pick up complimentary snacks. You can eat at the shared dining tables or in your room, and plates are available downstairs. The pool table is a nice extra, and the washer and dryer cost 90 bhat total. The location is great for wholesale shopping, with a Lotus, a 711, a fitness center, and 'Raintree' Cafe bar about 100 feet away. But there’s almost no social atmosphere. If you’re traveling solo and hoping to meet other solo travelers, this probably isn’t the place. It seems more suited to locals and families than to people looking for a busy traveler scene. My main reason for not returning is the customer service. The owner and front desk guy felt cold, and room cleaning was often missing. I had to ask even when I’d left the door tag outside. The bathroom sink has a flat bottom, so water doesn’t drain properly and leaves scummy, moldy water from previous travelers. Even when I requested cleaning, the sink wasn’t wiped down. Smoking is allowed out front only, not on the balcony. I wouldn’t stay again because of the service, though I’d still recommend it to someone wanting a budget-friendly, comfortable hostel in a good location. The hostel is one of the best places I’ve stayed in Thailand over many trips. It’s carefully maintained down to the smallest details, and the cleanliness couldn’t be better. The staff and location were great, and the amenities were just right. There’s free coffee, water, and snacks whenever you want. Can’t wait to come back 🫶🏻
