Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River

The service is what I remember most. When my father felt unwell, staff searched pharmacies around the area late at night to find medicine, then checked on him again at breakfast. Another time, my sister finished her gym workout after I’d left early, and staff had a key card ready for her without being asked. On our last evening, the team spotted us from a distance, came to help with our luggage, and gave us a genuinely warm goodbye. The rooms are spacious, with tall ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass, quality materials, and impressive views whatever the room category. They’re also tech-forward, with automatic curtains and a tablet for room controls and contacting staff. The architecture by Jean-Michel Gathy made an impression from the start: contemporary and minimalist, with wing-shaped lights and elegant orchid displays that give the place an artistic but welcoming feel. We ordered lamb ribs through room service late at night, and they arrived tender and juicy with a nicely balanced sweet-and-tangy sauce. The mushroom soup tasted fresh, and staff asked about doneness and serving temperature before bringing the food. Both dishes were presented beautifully. The quiet riverside setting is lovely for relaxing, though it’s a little less handy for exploring central Bangkok. I’d save it for the slower end of a trip. Give yourself more than two nights to enjoy the property and its facilities, and reserve the hotel boat ahead if you’re going to ICONSIAM. Crossing the river that way is convenient and enjoyable. One snag: even though I booked through an agent, check-in took about 30 minutes. A quicker arrival would have made the stay start more smoothly. Still, across the architecture, service, food, and overall experience, this is one of Bangkok’s best hotels. I’d book with confidence. (Photo to be updated later)

We had two suites facing the Chao Phraya River, and the views were stunning. The hotel itself feels serene and elegant, from the design and grounds to the overall atmosphere. Service was warm and attentive throughout, always polished without feeling stiff. Don’t miss brunch. There’s a huge spread, with Pad Thai, dumplings, fresh croissants, wood-fired individual pizzas, beautifully made egg dishes, and lots of fresh fruit. The food’s quality and presentation match the variety. A world-class stay, and one of our best. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

At The Lounge, the Signature Afternoon Tea is put together with real care. The savory courses included heirloom tomato with stracciatella, Balik salmon, and Japanese flying squid with smoked potato foam. Then came a playful, elegant petit mignon selection, some thoughtful surprises, and a comforting finish of chocolate, caramelized cocoa nibs, and vanilla brioche with soft serve. The tea fits the hotel’s calm, restrained style. Set beside the Chao Phraya River, this modern luxury property has a way of making you slow down and linger. It’s a 2 Michelin Key property and ranked the #2 Hotel in the World, but the experience rests on consistency rather than grand gestures. It feels carefully choreographed and in keeping with its global standing, without becoming excessive.

The riverside setting is appealing, but the most expensive rooms shouldn’t be placed right by the noise unless they have triple-layer windows. mandarin oriental seems to have handled that well. We chose this hotel for its location and wanted to leave after just one awful night. I’d booked a terrace room near the river. It was tiny compared with, say, Kempinski Sindhorn, and poor value for the price. Party boats and tugboats went on through the night, making it extremely noisy. The staff were lovely, but some basic practical touches were missing. Our room wasn’t ready, and we weren’t offered the pool area while our bags could have been kept in the changing room. The room was full of mosquitoes, but there was no repellent. The pool closed at 7 p.m., too early for guests who want to use the only activity there, and didn’t open until 9 a.m. That’s why I’m giving it two stars.
