Somerset Maison Asoke Bangkok

We had a comfortable stay with our two kids and would book again on a future Bangkok visit. The room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The location is peaceful, with lots of restaurants in the area, and a 7/11 just across the street. Great value for money.

There’s a 7-Eleven right across from the hotel, handy for grabbing drinks or snacks, and Asoke Station is a short walk away. When walking doesn’t appeal, the shuttle to and from the station is easy to use. Just say hello and they’ll come along quickly. I’m liking this hotel a little too much! The rooms are clean and spacious, the facilities are well equipped, and service is top-notch. Check-in and all the small details felt thoughtful and easy. Highly recommend if you want convenience and great service.

Breakfast is 400 Baht per person, and it left me in a bad mood each morning. The ingredients seemed poor quality, and I suspect some were being brought back out over several days. Drinks, cereal and fruit weren’t replenished well. The cheese was sweaty and hard, and the vegetables were dry and not fresh. It all felt stingy, and staff didn’t restock things on their own. I had to point out every item that ran out. The breakfast room is crowded and shared with a café and bakery, yet there’s almost no bakery bread served. One morning we saw a few bread ends on a bakery plate. When we asked for more, the answer was, “Don’t have.” There are strict signs saying food can’t be taken to the rooms. No need to worry about guests taking breakfast away, though. I saw people bring THEIR OWN food TO breakfast. A nice hotel doesn’t help if breakfast makes guests unhappy every morning. Do it right Somerset.

You could get SO MUCH more for the same money elsewhere. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever experienced, for several reasons. I booked a smoke-free room, but it definitely wasn’t smoke-free, and neither was the floor. The whole corridor from the elevator to my room smelled of smoke. I didn’t complain because, given the attitude at check-in, I didn’t think the receptionist would do anything. If you have asthma or are sensitive to smoke, this might even be a health issue. There was hair in the bathtub, on the floor and on the kitchen table. If you skipped cleaning the day before, they call and make you leave the room so they can clean it. They also called the minute checkout time arrived. When I asked for help with luggage, I had to wait a long time. The receptionists were super rude, all of them. I barely interacted with them beyond check-in and asking for a recommendation, and they answered as if I’d done something to them.
