Phi Phi Uphill Cottage

We were charged 150 baht for a broken body wash bottle, but we didn't break it. We'd brought our own wash and hadn't used the hotel's. It was very unpleasant being charged for something we hadn't done. I'd suggest taking a photo of every item in the room when you arrive.

Please don't book this place on vacation. After climbing a huge number of stairs, sweating like crazy, we checked in and found the AC wasn't working. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful, and didn't even acknowledge the problem. Staff eventually came to refill the AC gas after our complaint while we were still sweltering. We asked to change rooms, and the receptionist rudely told us we could cancel if we had a problem. It's not easy to find another hotel at the last minute when everything is fully booked. After hours of struggling, we finally got another room where the AC worked. The experience was terrible, the rooms are bad, and the kettle stank. Such a shitty place.

The 127 steps to the room were brutal for the first couple of days, but I got used to them. The pool was lovely after that climb, and we had it all to ourselves one day. We had a really nice three-night stay. The room was basic but had everything we needed, including a hairdryer, fridge, and kettle. The higher up the room, the better the view. AC was okay, though not the best. It's a five-minute walk down to the main area. Bars at Loh Dalum Bay make some noise until around 0200, but it wasn't enough to keep us awake.

Getting luggage up all the steps to the room is the main drawback. Otherwise, it's not far from the centre, with some bars and restaurants nearby. The lady and man in charge were very friendly, and service was excellent. The hotel can arrange a boat ticket back for less than you'd pay at the pier, which I highly recommend. Rooms are spacious enough, with a fridge and balcony. The AC works well but takes a little while to get going. Toilets were okay, though a bit unclean. We used a shower filter and the residue was really brown water.
