Snorkelling right in front of the hotel was fantastic, and the restaurant was a real highlight, with outstanding food and very friendly, professional staff. We also loved the unique view and location. Our room was spotless and well cared for, and we had a wonderful stay overall. The reception experience didn’t match that standard. The women at the desk weren’t very welcoming or service-minded. We also arranged a departure taxi through reception and were quoted 350 Baht. At pickup, the driver asked us for 400 Baht, plus another 400 Baht for extra passengers. We’d expected a private transfer, but it was a shared pickup truck with eight people. The driver was unfriendly, drove carelessly and tried to charge us more along the way. It felt unsafe and unprofessional, especially with another family and their baby onboard. It was a shame to end an otherwise excellent visit on that note. We’d still recommend the hotel for its cleanliness, atmosphere, restaurant and setting, and hope management improves the reception service and coordination.

There are a lot of stairs here, so think twice before leaving something behind in your room. Still, I was sad to go. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, especially when I got food poisoning and needed to visit the local clinic. They arranged transport both ways and even held an umbrella to shade me as I climbed the stairs. Everyone seemed to be smiling all the time. The facilities were great. The pool was clean and had a beautiful view, breakfast was good, and there was a nice dining menu. My room was dated but spotless, and the rest of the property was well maintained. The dive club gave us our best diving experience. It cost more than elsewhere, but after checking out other places, we felt the quality was much better. Snorkelling right off the resort was brilliant too, with loads of fish and even a sea turtle. The gym was surprisingly well equipped and air-conditioned. I honestly can’t recommend Jamahkiri enough.

I stayed here in 2023 and am only getting around to writing this now. The rooms had lovely views, and the resort staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. The dive shop team were fun, safety-conscious and knew where to find the interesting stuff. The main drawback is how far it is from town for meals or a wander around. The taxi service is so efficient that this wasn’t a big deal for me. I’d gladly recommend Jamakhiri.

The views are spectacular and the setting is beautiful, but that’s where the positives end for me. At this price, I expected more comfort and quality. The shampoo and soap are poor, the towels feel like budget-hotel ones, and a taxi to the hotel costs 500 baht each way. The internet was very slow and unreliable. Worse, the air conditioning barely worked. The room was unbearable at night, and I had to take cold showers to get some relief. The unit took hours to cool the room, when it managed to at all. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It’s overpriced for the level of comfort it provides.

We had a great stay at Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa in Koh Tao. Our room was brand new and came with a private pool, just the right size for two. It also had a small kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator, which came in handy. The hotel has a nice spa and a good gym, and the service was very good. Breakfast was tasty and perfectly fine, though there wasn’t a huge choice. The hotel sits on a steep hill, so walking to the centre isn’t really practical. Luckily, there’s a free shuttle into town and back three times a day. In our view, it’s an excellent 4-star hotel.
