We went to Khao Sok Home River for two nights after reading good reviews, paying 227 euros including breakfast. Card payment came with a 3% fee. Getting there was difficult: Google Maps showed a street, but the last 400 ml was a dirt road and our taxi driver needed convincing. A kind man greeted us and carried our bags. The room was tiny, about 9 sqm, with no wardrobe or hooks and a bed that felt like sleeping on wood. There was a strong urine smell in the bathroom. I tried to accept the basic room as a jungle stay, though the prices felt like London rates. The excursion the host offered was the main issue. We chose a private three-hour sunset trip, quoted at 7,000 baht, rather than the all-day group tour at 2,000 baht per person. There were extra national park fees that hadn't been mentioned. The woman with the boatman suggested a crowded cave, which we declined, then took us to a restaurant for a supposed hour-and-forty-minute break. It was a mess, so I asked to go to the elephant area instead and eventually paid her another 1,500 baht in cash. The outing itself was spectacular: we saw a wild elephant and a monkey, and the lake and mountains were beautiful. The costs ended up at 680 baht for entry, 1,500 for the boatman, and 9,000 for the administrator, or about 320 euros/$372 USD altogether. I felt they'd gone too far, which is why I'm writing this. Having stayed in several Thai hotels, I'd rate the place 3 out of 5, but for the swindling, 1 star.

We loved how secluded the place felt, even though it's about 20 minutes from Khao Sok town and that setting won't suit everyone. The family bungalow has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen, with great views. The grounds are looked after, and there's a nice restaurant with good food and a fire pit. Staff were very helpful and did their best to assist us during our two-night stay.

Watching geckos was one of my favorite parts. This was the most unusual place I've stayed, right beside a river in the jungle, with what you need on site. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was nice, and they can arrange a trip to Kao Sak.

The room was better than we expected, and the food was delicious. We had an incredible time at Khao Sok River Home Resort thanks to the friendly, attentive service. I'd happily come back.

We only decided to stay here less than an hour before check-in, after leaving a terrible place in Khao Sok. From arrival, the staff were all smiles and helped us settle in. The buildings sit tucked among the trees, with a lovely jungle and river view. It was quiet apart from the animal sounds, which we loved. Our small room felt cosy and the bed was comfortable. Screen doors let us open the main door and enjoy the sounds without mosquitoes coming in. The food was freshly made and excellent at both breakfast and dinner. One staff member even drove us in her own car to the main road for pickup after they arranged our onward travel. It was a spontaneous, short stay, but we loved it and would return. Good value, too. Just be aware the grounds are very hilly, so the slopes and steps could be hard to manage if you have mobility issues.
