Excelsior Resort

The manager was incredibly nice, and the laundry was free. My room was clean, breakfast was included, and the shower had good pressure.

I’ve visited Dili a few times each year since 2009 as a self-funded volunteer from Australia, and EH is where I prefer to stay. It’s an easy place for someone like me, though it’s no Ritz. The rooms are more than adequate and well cleaned, as are the shared facilities. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. It’s fairly central, with the beach and a range of places to eat just a short walk away.

The room was quiet, and I loved the large, deep swimming pool. The location isn’t bad, near Timor Plaza and the beach, though the area around the hotel feels like a slum. It’s an old hotel that needs improvements. Rooms need more light, mobile reception is very poor indoors, and the hotel WiFi doesn’t work either. There are lots of mosquitoes. The bathroom needs more regular cleaning, including the shower glass and bidet hose. Breakfast varies, sometimes good and sometimes bad, so buying food outside may be better. I did like the spaghetti and sausages.

The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, and the WiFi is good. It takes about 45 minutes to walk to the centre. They host weddings too, so evenings can get loud.
