Apart Hotel Hippodrome

Staying in Hoppodrome felt like going to my parents' house for a holiday. The rooms felt like they were really mine, rather than somewhere I had for just a few days. On my earlier trips to Istanbul I stayed in chain hotels, and I realize now I missed a lot of the city's vibe. You still get familiar comforts like good bedding, excellent mattresses, and service, but there's a warmth here that feels like family and friends. The staff were supportive and available at all hours. The hotel is made up of several apartments in neighboring buildings along the same street, with the reception, rooms, and breakfast buffet a three-to-five-minute walk apart. I enjoyed having that little bit of distance and privacy. The cooks make amazing food, and the buffet sometimes includes something familiar from your own culture. Breakfast is served indoors and outside on a small balcony, where you can look out at the Bosphorus over tasty, healthy homemade food and a cup of Turkish tea. Fatih is a wonderful district, close to historically significant monuments and shopping spots tourists love, including the Grand Bazaar. Hagia Sophia is only a few minutes away for a morning walk before breakfast and a day of exploring. If you're after comfort and warmth while getting the most out of the city, this is a great place to stay. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Istanbul.
