Haus Suites Galata

I chose this place for its location and enjoyed being able to walk around and explore. It’s within walking distance of the Galata Tower area. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked well. There are lots of stairs and no elevator, so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage. Someone helped me with my bags when I checked in, and I carried them down myself when I checked out.

The room was okay, the location was nice, and the people working there were very kind. The biggest problem was the noise. You can hear everything from the stairs and other rooms. I also couldn’t work out why the bathroom door had no handle on the inside, which made it difficult to use. Still, I didn’t regret staying.

Getting into the building late at night went smoothly. No one was at the entrance, but we sorted it out by phone, and the gentleman we spoke with was kind and helpful. He said we could contact him anytime. The room was clean, with plenty of toilet paper and towels, and it came with a kettle, tea and coffee packs, and two free bottles of water. That was nice. The room was disappointing, though, because it looked much larger in the pictures. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the one shown on the booking site. I expected an old building, but not one like this. The narrow wooden stairs were noisy, and the thin walls let in every sound from the street, making it hard to fall asleep. I’d read comments about the bathroom and was prepared for it, but it had frosted glass instead of a solid wall. That could make some people uncomfortable, though I was fine with it. In the middle of the night we took the spare blanket, then saw in the morning that it was stained and looked dirty. The room was cold even with the heat on. The AC didn’t seem to work on warm, though I’m not sure whether that was something on our end. We booked through a hotel site, but it didn’t really feel like a hotel. I don’t mind that, but I expected an actual hotel experience.

A quick walk gets you to the water for morning coffee, and the ferry is right there. Sultanahmet, Capali carsi, Egyptian bazaar, and the train and bus stations are around a 15-20 minute walk away. Our room was spotless, the shower stayed hot, and there’s a small fridge to use. The bathroom setup was new to me, inside the room but separated, and it worked fine. The host and cleaning lady were welcoming and helped with everything I asked for, including airport transport. We had a lovely stay and I’d come back 🤗
