Grand Dost Hotel

The room smelled awful, the bed and sheets were filthy, and the bathroom was barely usable. I had to stay the night, and it was a total disappointment, like being in an abandoned city hotel. A village house in Osmancık would have been much more comfortable. Honestly, sleeping in my car would have made more sense. Do not stay here. Never.

The rooms all allow smoking, and the smell was pretty strong. We don't smoke, so the staff helped us choose the least smoky room, though it still smelled. We arrived late and had dinner at the hotel restaurant to avoid looking for somewhere else, but the food wasn't good value for the price. I'd eat outside next time. The staff were welcoming and waited for our late check-in. They also let us park right in front of the hotel door, which mattered to us. Breakfast was okay, and there's a pleasant terrace with a city view where you can eat when the weather is good.

The rooms are huge and well equipped, with spacious shower stalls and comfortable beds with good mattresses. A couple of the plastic shower holders were already broken, so those could use maintenance, but that's a small issue. We slept really well. The hotel is right by the main road. Our front room had some traffic noise and shaking, while the room at the back didn't. We stayed in both and weren't too bothered, since traffic was light, especially during the 21-5 curfew. I liked the restaurant upstairs, and it has a terrace with a city view, though it was too cold for us to sit outside. The restaurant windows slide open, which helped my wife feel more comfortable about coronavirus. The rooms were also aired out properly after guests left. There are mosquito nets everywhere, which seems useful for the local summers. The Wi-Fi worked well throughout the hotel, around 20/5 speed, and I used it quite a bit. We were there for a family reunion, so we didn't go sightseeing, though I noticed there's a castle in the city. Our trip took us through here on the way into the country and again on the return, after Georgia blocked our transit to Russia. We ended up taking the Karasu-Odessa ferry. We had a very good stay and I can recommend the hotel.

We came all the way from Netherlands to Turkey and didn't expect to deal with this. Our room wasn't clean and there was a lizard in it. They moved us after we complained, but the restaurant employee wasn't helpful when we asked him to turn the fan on and then off. He just looked at us badly and left without fixing the problem. I won't come back.
