Fun Taipei Hostel

Getting the password through LINE is a bit of a step, but after that it’s convenient. It’s right inside Shilin Night Market and close to the station, so the location is great.

The two floors were so poorly soundproofed that we barely slept. We were on the first floor November 11th and 12th, and heard footsteps above us from the moment we checked in. At first we thought there might be a child upstairs. As the night went on, it got much worse, with noise continuing almost until checkout in the morning and growing louder the whole time. We told the hotel staff, who said they’d try to calm things down, but it only got louder. Eventually we went upstairs to find out what was happening and discovered the guests having sex. The woman’s screams were quite shrill. No wonder we were awake all night. They were probably too busy to check their phones 😍

The room was nice and had good amenities, including a fridge, Netflix on the TV and air conditioning, but it was VERY small. The shower and tap were a bit temperamental too, sometimes taking more than two minutes before water started running. I’m torn between 4 and 5 stars. I’m especially sensitive to noise, but our room upstairs wasn’t a problem. I sleep with earplugs anyway, though I think I’d have been fine without them. All in all, a pretty pleasant two-night stay.
