Mkoani Homestay

I really enjoyed the homemade food and getting a glimpse of local life here. The hosts were so kind and welcoming that I felt like part of the family. My room was clean, comfortable, and peaceful, perfect after a long day. A lovely experience, and I’d highly recommend it for an authentic stay in Tanzania.

They let us store our extra bags while we climbed Kili, then gave us a room to shower in after we came back down. Dee and the staff are open, kind, welcoming, and accommodating. The food was fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It’s a little outside Moshi, which suited us fine, and there’s a lovely cafe nearby. You feel at home as soon as you arrive. Guests I spoke with seemed happy, but I found the place quite basic and the photos looked better than the real experience. Service was very slow, whether ordering or asking for something. There weren’t even glasses by the water cooler. The toilet had no sink, the sink was at reception, and the towels were in the shower room. Staff didn’t speak much English, except for the owner, who wasn’t always there. The town tour is free only from town, not from Mkoani.

The garden is beautiful, with wild animals passing through, and there’s a bonfire spot and a bar where you can meet other visitors. Dee and Peter are friendly, welcoming hosts who do their best to make your time in Moshi comfortable. Good food, and flexible breakfast and dinner times. It’s a cute, calm, cozy place, a nice change from the fast pace of Moshi’s inner city.
