Cruachan Hotel

We had a lovely New Year stay. The staff were lovely, and the hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Fort William. A twin room was all that was available, but the beds were very comfortable.

The breakfast was delicious, and everything else about the stay was great. The hotel is beautiful inside and keeps a castle-like feel, with clean rooms and very friendly staff. The downside was the restaurant menu, which was mostly Indian options. That’s not a bad thing, but I can’t tolerate spicy food, so there wasn’t much I could choose. Even the chicken in my pasta was spicy, and I couldn’t really enjoy it.

The view over Loch Linnhe was lovely, and the location was great. Prices felt high, but were comparable to other hotels nearby, and I felt this one offered more: better room and hotel decor, breakfast included, and mostly friendly, accommodating staff. We arrived quite late and were able to leave our bags after checkout without any hassle. The room was warm and had both bright and cozy lighting options, a large window for ventilation, a kettle with a few tea and coffee sachets, a hair dryer, and an extra blanket and pillows. The shower was warm with alright pressure. Breakfast was an average British and Continental spread, with plenty to go around, nothing mind-blowing.

The room was very small, and the breakfast was abysmal. I waited all day for the room to be cleaned, only to be told it would happen after 3pm, even though the rooms next to us had been done. We left a day early because the room wasn’t being cleaned and staff were very dismissive. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially if you’re an ethnic minority.
