The potato mash and rosti were far too salty, and the mains felt small for what they cost. The food was otherwise nice, but one dessert had coconut cream that tasted sour and fizzy, like it had gone off. When I mentioned it, the staff gave a brief apology and didn’t offer anything to make up for it. I’d been to Browns restaurant twice before and had good experiences, so this third visit was a letdown. I probably wouldn’t return.

Browns Restaurant is on site, and the location works well if you're finishing the West Highland Way from Glasgow. Our room was very spacious, with big windows that let in plenty of daylight. The staff were mostly friendly, apart from one female server. It was a decent hotel.

The venison was cooked well done, with hardly any pink, and didn’t go with the butter soaked leek bulgar wheat. The beef shin was so salty I couldn’t taste anything else, and it came without the root veg mash it was meant to have. Even the chicken duck terrine starter was just the two meats layered together, which wasn’t what I expected. The restaurant was empty apart from us on a quiet Sunday in low season. I’d say the food was below average for the area.

Both dinners with my youngest daughter over the past two months were lovely. It was quiet each time, with a warm atmosphere and staff who were really friendly and helpful. The meals looked beautiful and tasted just as good. Thanks to Browns for two very lovely visits.

The food was good, but the service was the worst we came across in Scotland, and they still added a service charge. This is a strange hotel, especially for one of our more expensive stays. The finishes looked beautiful, though underneath they felt cheap, as if the place had been flipped. I’d never slipped in a tub before, but this one felt coated with something very slick when I tried to get in. There wasn’t a mat provided.
