We’re always greeted so warmly at Sophie’s coffee shop, often by the smiley and welcoming Ruby. The coffee is great, and I love the date and walnut scones. It’s dog friendly too. There’s lovely outdoor seating for warmer days, and the staff are all very nice. Definitely recommend it.

The staff made us feel welcome as soon as we came in, and they were warm, friendly and genuinely polite throughout. I loved the fresh, perfectly cooked eggs and avocado, and the full breakfast was full of flavour and really satisfying. The latte was excellent too, smooth and well balanced, and clearly made with care. I’d happily keep coming back.

The eggs were excellent, but the rest of our visit was a significant miss. We asked for oat milk lattes and were told they only had almond milk. Both tasted rancid. At the till, the woman said they did have oat milk after all, but those drinks tasted even worse. It turned out she had a stash of powdered oat milk, which the young server seemed desperate not to give us. The servers were friendly, though they seemed to be under the influence of the woman at the till. The price was exorbitant too: £12.50 for eggs and avocado on toast, with a congealed salt cellar on the table. Maybe Sophie’s suits the locals, but it didn’t work for us.

We had Welsh Rarebit today, one of our favourites. This hidden gem always has delicious homemade food, daily specials and a superb Sunday lunch.
