Safestay Elephant Castle

The communal area was a highlight, with a pool table, table tennis, and a garden. It was my first time staying at Safe Stay, and the rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable, and everything very clean. The night staff and Aaron, whom I met in the morning, gave great customer service. He explained the breakfast policy and showed me where to get fluids to take with my medication. I really appreciate Safe Stay and the team, and I'll visit again one day.

Reception staff were always friendly and helpful, and breakfast had plenty to choose from each morning: toast, jams, croissants, petit pain au chocolat, halal sausages, baked beans, cereal, yogurts, apples, juice, and hot drinks. The rooms were clean, with large lockable storage trolleys and a small bed light. Bathrooms were clean too, though some showers leaked and left water on the floor. The location is convenient for walking to places like the Houses of Parliament. Bus stops are right outside, and the local Tube is a 7-8 minute walk away.

The staff I met were genuinely friendly, welcoming, and very helpful, and the building was lovely and warm to come back to after being out in the cold. As a first-time hostel guest, I was nervous because of the usual stereotypes, but those worries turned out to be unfounded. The room was comfortable, and the location was great, a short walk from the train station and surrounded by good restaurants. Breakfast had a decent selection, though it's best to get there early. I arrived around 9:30 and most of the food was gone. I had a wonderful stay from December 31st to January 3rd, and would happily recommend the hostel and return. It was a great first hostel experience! 😊

I was horrified to arrive today and find that the bed curtains for privacy had been removed, with no announcement. I stayed here last February when the beds still had curtains. That's especially unfair when the photos on their Google site still show them. The place doesn't get the best men. It's smelly, dirty, and weird. As a woman, I wouldn't call it a Safestay for sleeping in mixed dorms anymore. Removing the bed curtains wasn't a safe idea, and this should be clearly noted on all sites. They need more security and thorough cleaners, like other hostels. I accidentally booked a non-refundable stay and now have to find a hostel with curtains. I can't sleep in a room exposed to strangers. 😩💔
