The Mayfair Townhouse

The minibar was handy after a day of sightseeing, with good quality local produce and no charge. The Mayfair Townhouse is minutes from Green Park underground station and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, Old Bond Street, Regent Street, and plenty of nice restaurants and cafes. My son and I stayed for a long weekend just after the new year. Our room was spacious, luxurious, and clean. Reception service was fantastic, and Solomon and Adam were very helpful with our early check-in and request for a higher floor. We’ll definitely be back.

After weather delays pushed my arrival late, I was welcomed as soon as I walked in and felt more like I was staying in a family home. Check-in was quick, breakfast in the morning was tailored and satisfying, and checkout was speedy. There are several local attractions within walking distance, too. I didn't have time to find anything to complain about. Truly amazing, and somewhere I'd bring my family or someone special.

At £400 a night, I expected a properly working bathroom. The room was small, which makes sense for the area, but the toilet stopped flushing properly again the morning after maintenance fixed it, and the shower drain was so poor that the bathroom flooded. The coffee at breakfast was excellent, though I waited about ten minutes for someone to take my order. The bar hours were confusing. At check-in I was told it closed at 23:00, but when I came down at 22:30 for an Old Fashioned, I was told cocktails stopped at 22:30. It was also hard to get the bar staff's attention. When I asked reception about the conflicting information the next day, they said Sunday hours “can vary” and staff “don't really know” the exact times. That should have been explained clearly from the start. The service felt inconsistent overall, and the unclear communication and need for more staff training let the experience down. It didn't feel like the five-star standard the hotel claims.

The room was one of the biggest letdowns. Its window was extremely dirty, and despite asking twice and being told it would be cleaned, nothing was done. At checkout we weren't given an invoice either. I've emailed three times since and still haven't had a reply. This was meant to be a special birthday surprise for my boyfriend, but there was a reservation mix-up on the hotel's side when we arrived. We were left waiting in the lobby for over an hour without a clear explanation. There was no compensation or upgrade. Instead, we were downgraded to a smaller room for the first night, and never got the price difference back. The reception team seemed unable to sort out even simple problems and came across as unhelpful and unprofessional. The whole stay felt far below what you'd expect from a place advertising luxury and five-star service. I wouldn't stay again or recommend it.
