The room was good and I slept well during our four nights, but I wouldn’t come back. Breakfast was awful, with dry scrambled eggs, overcooked bacon and sometimes no cups for coffee. Things felt badly organised, with staff often missing from reception when guests wanted to check in or from the bar, so people ended up walking out. When we sat in the bar for four hours one evening, hardly any glasses were cleared, and the table still had the same drink rings the following night. Most of the team could use more training, as it seemed they didn’t know what one another was doing. The man I think was the boss should learn some manners and customer service, and treat the newer staff with more respect instead of frowning and barking orders. Kelvin, or KL, was very helpful and pleasant. The woman in the breakfast area was also okay, and John, who I think was new, was pleasant but needs more training. While we were having a drink in reception, I looked out and saw a rat by the hedge right next to the window, staring at us. That was horrible.

The beds were really comfortable, and the staff were lovely, but the room had stains on the walls and sheets. The coffee machine and kettle were filthy, and the machine had no lid so we couldn’t use it. The ironing board was stained too, the toilet seat was broken, and the shower curtain was damaged and partly see-through. The bathroom fan stayed loud all night even with the door shut. We were there for one night for an event at the 02. The DLR station is a ten-minute walk, though the route is along back alleys that didn’t feel safe at night. It’s right by a runway, but you can barely hear the planes. Getting an uber to and from the 02 was easy. The 24-hour bar took over 20 minutes to serve us despite repeated apologies, and then four alcoholic drinks we asked for weren’t available. Parking costs extra. For a budget night, it was okay.

Big shoutout to Daniel, such a positive guy with a great work ethic and happy to help with anything. I stayed a couple of days and slept really well both nights. The room was warm and quiet, and the pizza came out quickly, piping hot and amazing.

I was here for four nights for an exhibition at ExCel, and the location is the main draw. There’s a Docklands light railway station on one side and the city airport on the other. You can walk to ExCel and the riverside attractions, take the cablecars over the river, and get around as a tourist quite easily. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was pretty good for a chain hotel. I’d stay again.
