The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the beds were comfortable and spacious. Our room was very spacious too, with a good choice at breakfast from continental options to a full English. It’s a shame there are no lunch or evening meals available. There are places to eat within walking distance, including pub food, Italian and Indian.

The new manager welcomed my son and me, showed us around the hotel, including the gym, and told us about the building’s history. In the morning, the manager was super friendly and took time to connect with my son, who has special needs, making sure his breakfast was right. Our twin room was spacious, warm and had a great powerful shower. We’ll be back. Leicester TeamSport go karting is easy to reach, and there are good places to eat a 3-minute walk away. I recommend the White Horse, especially on Wednesday pie night. Their beef and Guinness pie was the best I’ve ever had.

For a quick work overnight, the stay was okay. It feels more like a 3* hotel, which might set expectations better. The breakfast room was absolutely freezing, so I ate and hurried back to my room for another cup of tea. The menu listed pancakes, waffles and pastries alongside cooked breakfast, but none were available. The continental selection was basically cereal or toast, with no real fresh option. The berries came in a very thick, jelly-like syrup.

We picked this hotel because it’s near my parents’ home and hoped to use it regularly for family visits. After this stay, we won’t be back or recommend it. The experience didn’t match what we expected for the price, especially after booking an executive room. The room had several problems. The shower head was dirty, the old flat pillows were uncomfortable overnight, and the carpet and walls were worn and scuffed. On the second day, nobody serviced our room. We also found rust, grime and black mold in the bathroom. We were told our room was in a building with a broken door that was being repaired the day after we arrived, but it still hadn’t been fixed. The elevator was out of order too, and we only found out when we had to carry our suitcases up the stairs. Breakfast was just as disappointing. We arrived at 9:50 AM, while continental breakfast was advertised until 10:00 AM, but Jade abruptly asked us to check the time, making it sound like we were late. When we said we only wanted continental breakfast, she dismissively told us to sit anywhere. Half the tables were dirty, there were no plates, and we had to eat toast off a napkin. The coffee was terrible and there was no juice left. It felt like we were an inconvenience despite arriving within the advertised hours. Jade checked us out without any courtesy, not even a goodbye or a question about our stay. It was basically, “yep that’s paid,” with an attitude that we could go now.

It’s a shame, because I liked the hotel and the village around it, with nice pubs and restaurants right nearby. The car park was great, though very poorly lit. When I checked in, I found the bathroom tap wasn’t working. Reception already knew about it, which surprised me. I asked them to fix it before I went out for the evening, but it was still broken when I came back, and nobody was available at reception. The next morning there was no hot water for a shower either. I reported that too, but wasn’t offered a fix or even an apology.
