The food was really good, and the portions were generous for the affordable prices. We had a lovely evening meal, with Alex looking after us especially well. He was friendly and efficient, a real credit to the business. Our room was cosy and clean, with stunning views from a great location. We were impressed with the whole stay, so we’ll be back every year. Thanks for a wonderful visit. I’m not sure what the lower-rated reviews are about, because we had such a good experience. The breakfast staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient, about 3.5 miles from central Bath. Beyond that, the stay was disappointing. The hotel felt dated and in need of modernisation, and the buffet breakfast was only a 4/10. I only learned there was a vegetarian option after overhearing another party. The rooms were cold, with no heating running overnight. My in-laws had no heating for most of their stay and were cold much of the time, which especially concerned me as they were older. I was in room 34, a standard double, and asked to move after the first night because it was too cold. The hotel did accommodate me. We’d also booked a standard twin with a view and an executive room, since the three of us needed separate rooms. After our three-hour journey, the front desk staff came across as unwelcoming and condescending. They insisted that each person complete a separate registration, even though we had booked all three rooms together. When my father-in-law filled out his form, the woman was stern and curt. The showers had very little pressure, apparently due to gravity feed, and the cold rooms made the stay uncomfortable. I wasn’t asked about my experience at checkout, though I would have shared this feedback if they had asked. It felt as if they already knew not to ask. A Travelodge or Premier Inn might have made for a better stay.
The free parking and on-site EV charging were a real convenience, and the peaceful countryside setting made this a relaxing getaway. We came from Canada and loved the character of the 400-year-old building. It has so much history and charm, and the stay left us with lovely memories. Mr. George welcomed us at reception and was kind, efficient, and helpful throughout. The accommodation was comfortable, and for a 3-star hotel the value was better than we expected. We’d happily recommend it.
The stressful part of this stay began before we arrived. We got a WhatsApp message claiming to be from Best Western Limpley Stoke Hotel, asking us to verify our Booking.com reservation. It had our full name, booking ID, dates, and hotel name, and said the booking could be cancelled if we didn’t act within 24 hours. We believed it and entered our card details through the link. It turned out to be a scam. After we landed, we contacted the hotel. Staff said it was a known scam and that we shouldn’t have entered our details, but by then all our cards had been compromised. We were later told the hotel had emailed guests about it, though no such email reached us. We also got conflicting accounts of whether the breach came through the hotel or Booking.com. The consequences took hours to deal with: calls to the banks, cancelled and replaced cards, and having to rely on a Wise account for spending money during the trip. Even though the hotel knew we’d been scammed, staff offered no apology, acknowledgment, or support when we arrived. We changed our plans and checked out a night early because of the lack of care and accountability. Booking.com later called the property to request a refund for us, but it was denied. We were left feeling extremely let down. Future guests should be very cautious about messages asking them to verify a booking or provide card details. This was handled very poorly.
We had a comfortable room with a nice view, and it was well kept. The bathroom had what we needed, with clean towels provided. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and check-in was easy. I had a positive stay and would return if I visit Bath again. :3
