Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel

We really enjoyed breakfast, and the staff there were friendly and helpful. Reception was welcoming too, with a nice chat and a thorough explanation of everything. I arrived early, before check-in, but they offered me a room anyway. The central spot by Piccadilly gardens has everything on site. My room was clean, modern and spacious, with enough amenities; the bed and pillows were okay. The air conditioning had a mind of its own, barely cooled the room and made an awful knocking and banging noise. It was cool enough that I didn't need it, but summer would be different. There was also a strange knocking noise that went on through the night, and I couldn't work out where it came from. Even so, I'd stay again.

Andrea and Katyuska were outstanding, personable and dedicated, and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The service from the start was first class, and throughout our stay the team took good care of us. They were attentive to details, quick to respond to our needs, and handled every request warmly and professionally. Everything about the experience felt impeccable. We'd definitely return, especially if Andrea and Katyuska are still on the team. Highly recommend.

The breakfast selection was very good, and the fresh orange juice was a nice touch. The food itself was reasonable, though a little cold. All the staff welcomed us warmly and professionally, especially Ben, who was particularly attentive and went out of his way to look after us.

The breakfast was simple but well done, and the staff were friendly. At checkout, the manager remembered our first-night complaint and apologised. He said the heating system was very old and due to be replaced soon, and hoped it would be fixed if we came back after the refurbishment. I might return once that's complete, but for now the hotel feels very tired, despite its excellent central location and fairly clean rooms. When we arrived, our room was freezing because the heating didn't work. I reported it at the desk and was told maintenance would come. A few hours later it was still cold, so I used the QR code and the duty manager came. He blamed the low outside temperature and offered another radiator, since the temporary oil one in the room wasn't warming it, but said there were no other rooms available. The room had almost no sound insulation: at 5am we could hear people talking in the next room and doors banging along the corridor. They didn't refill the coffee when they serviced the room, and the WiFi rarely connected; when it did, it transferred no data. It wasn't just my device, so I used mobile data instead. The photo is of Piccadilly gardens. Inside, the window has modern double glazing, but the external window is still the old hotel's single-pane glass, dirty and covered in condensation. The staff seem to be doing their best, but the owners need to refurbish the hotel before its poor reputation sticks.
