The best part is how close it is to the city centre, though the busy street nearby does make it noisy. I booked two nights for a Manchester city break because it was cheap and wasn't expecting much. The room was small and dated but pretty clean, and the bed was a bit small for two. The shower door wouldn't shut properly, the window had the same problem, and the TV wouldn't turn on. I was also uneasy about being asked to give my card details to get the key as security for possible damage, especially since I'd paid online and assumed they already had the details.

We were there for two weeks while dealing with a difficult house move, and The Stay Inn Manchester did a lot to make things easier and fit us in. The team were friendly, attentive and seemed happy to help with anything. It's affordable and right by the City Centre, with a clean, well run feel throughout. Fantastic stay, I can thoroughly recommend it.

The repeated knocks made the stay stressful. Twice in one night, while we were trying to sleep quietly in the dark, staff said there'd been a noise complaint and asked whether I was renae, which I'm not. Then there was another knock tonight as I wrote this, and we ignored it because it had become too much. On arrival, the receptionist was arrogant and immediately asked for my full bank card details, including the CVV, which set off alarm bells. The room was as expected, but the bed rolled around on its wheels. The headboard lights fall apart, the shower height adjustment doesn't work so we had to use it by hand, and the TV wasn't connected to WiFi despite being listed as a facility on booking.com. The bathroom barely fits one small person, there's no lift so luggage has to go up the stairs, and staff were rude except for one night shift man. At £170 for two nights, it wasn't worth it. I'd choose the nearby Travel Lodge by the retail park for the same price. I won't be back, and would give zero stars if I could.

The 20 minute walk into the centre was fine by day, but the area felt rough at night, with groups of young lads outside. We even considered leaving before staying the night. The room was standard, though the dated ensuite had bits falling off and bugs crawling around. The towels were very dry, and I couldn't tell how old the shower gel and hand wash in the dispensers were. I wish we'd read the reviews about the card details first: they recorded the full number and details in case of "damage", even though our card was already on the booking system. For about two weeks we avoided keeping money on the card in case someone stole from it.

The card request at reception was alarming. They asked for my bank card and PIN, which felt extremely suspicious and unprofessional, and they also refused to store my luggage. The rooms were in shocking condition, with a constantly squeaking bed that was far too small for two despite being described as a double. Reception staff were unfriendly from the moment we arrived, and the service was very poor. One of the worst hotel stays I've had. I'd never recommend the place.
