The shower was the one letdown, with really low pressure. It could be much better. Otherwise, everything gets an A to A+ from me. The room was comfy, the food was good, and I loved the beetroot salad. Communal areas had a relaxed feel, and the staff were cheerful and helpful. I didn’t use the spa, but it looked good through the windows.

My daughter’s hen do here was such a good time for all of us. The cocktail-making was fun, the food was scrumptious and the rooms were delightful. Staff were friendly and so helpful. I’d highly recommend this girls’ night in for a hen party or celebration.

The gym was well equipped, and the spa was nice and quiet. Our room was comfortable, and the shower was great. We were there last week to catch up with a friend, and the hotel itself was lovely. The building work was the unfortunate part. We weren’t told about it before we arrived, and if we’d known, we might have picked somewhere else. Drilling started at 8am and woke us up. We’d come to relax and weren’t expecting that. I’d definitely return once the work is finished.

This was my second stay, and I’m already looking forward to coming back. We were a group of 18 for a company event, and every single person enjoyed their food. The restaurant team were patient and helpful, and there were plenty of breakfast choices as well. Staff throughout were friendly and accommodating. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the station, and there’s lots of parking if you drive. The rooms are elegant, with everything you need and thoughtful extras like a sleep pack and sleep spray. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. The restaurant food was outstanding.

Breakfast is a real highlight here. There’s a generous buffet, plus you can order a freshly cooked breakfast to suit you, and it arrived just right. It’s the kind of meal that makes you think you won’t need lunch, at least until midday. This was my second visit, and it lived up to the first. Comfortable rooms, plenty of character, good facilities and a breakfast worth getting up for. I’ll be back. The spa was excellent too. I made full use of the pool, steam room and sauna, and they were all just what I hoped for. The sauna is in the changing rooms, so there’s no male and female integration, which is a welcome setup if you’d rather skip awkward small talk or wondering where to look. My room seemed to be one of the newly refurbished ones. There were around twenty more rooms being worked on during my stay, so the refurbishment was clearly well underway. If mine is anything to go by, they’re doing something right. It had quirky touches, including a traditional telephone that looked out of place in the modern world, and a rather smug SMEG fridge tucked under the desk. There was a good selection of tea and coffee, which I enjoyed on a comfortable sofa, a small hotel luxury done properly. Just off the M6 at Penrith, North Lakes Hotel & Spa feels like a welcoming refuge after a long drive, with comfort, character and a chance for a well-earned drink. It was my second stay, so I clearly meant it when I said I’d come back. The spacious reception makes an impression, with handsome stone walls and a roaring fire that makes you want to slow down. It feels a bit like a well-appointed country lodge. The nearby bar has comfortable seating, a lively atmosphere and a drinks selection that can improve a long motorway trip. If I had to compare breakfast to something, maybe a scarecrow, outstanding in its field. When a place gets this much right, it’d almost be rude not to return.
