Dinner at Steve's brasserie was a 10/10. Chloe, the young waitress, was a lovely host and looked after me throughout, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The food was clearly freshly cooked: the sea bream was soft, flaky and juicy, with crisp skin, and the lemon potatoes were amazing. The vegetables were just a little al dente, which I liked. My drink came straight away, and the main took perhaps 15 minutes. I finished with sticky toffee pudding, light and tasty, with the best ice cream I've ever had. I'd love to know where they get it. The staff are warm, friendly and helpful without fuss, and the gym is well equipped. Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable, with the key amenities, a big TV, a bath (a big plus) and easy heating controls. Breakfast has a reasonable choice and quick service. The location is perfect for my work. I love this hotel and will keep coming back.

Inside, it's a bit of a rabbit warren, like plenty of older British hotels, but otherwise fairly pleasant. The problem came when we tried to sleep: parties on Saturday nights bring music that reverberates through the walls until midnight. Unless you plan to stay up that late, don't stay here.

The breakfast was pretty good, and there are lots of nice places quite close by. The layout was amusing, it felt a bit like stepping into a TARDIS with what seemed like millions of rooms. Not the best place, not the worst.

It was great having enough space for our group of five, with two adjoining rooms. The noise from other rooms was noticeable, but didn't bother us enough to affect our sleep. The beds were clean and comfortable, and I was impressed by how clean the bathroom was. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Highly recommended.

The brasserie service was great, but the steak was one of the worst I've eaten, with a big piece of gristle in the middle of the sirloin. The shower was great. The bed was small, and there was no temperature control, so the room was uncomfortably warm even in winter. The floors are very old and creaky, and sound carries throughout the hotel.
