The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and a live piano player who takes song requests. The food is more fine dining, with seasonal and holiday menu changes and dishes you don't usually see at the shore. Cocktails were great, too. Appetizers are on the small side, so they won't fill you up. I enjoyed the steak tartar, which was tasty and different from others I've tried. My rabbit Ragu with homemade pasta was perfect, and the sauce was delicious. Apple cobbler was a nice finish.

We'd had excellent meals here on two earlier visits, five and ten years ago, so this time was a real letdown. The Butternut Squash Bisque was wonderful, and the Crème Brûlée with fresh rasberries and cookies on top was excellent. The Apple Cobbler had a nice cookie topping, but the apples were so overcooked they were mostly applesauce. Other dishes varied. The Lobster Bisque tasted very fishy and strongly of Sherry. The Gnocchi were dry, though the carrots were excellent. The Wagu Meatloaf was dense and overworked, while the mashed potatoes were fine with quarter-inch bacon cubes. Harvest Chicken was extremely tough and dry in watery, nearly flavorless tomato sauce. There were no mushrooms in it, and I assume they had run out.

I landed on a red-eye from PDX for my son's Coast Guard graduation and came here for dinner that day, since it was next door to where I was staying. The meal was lovely, and so was the whole experience. I was dining alone. The maitre d' and delightful server were accommodating, attentive, and engaging, while still giving me space to enjoy dinner. I'm grateful to everyone at Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant. Thank you!

The dinner made an otherwise disappointing evening pleasant. Our reservation had accidentally been made for tomorrow, and we couldn't manage a 100-mile drive home and back, so we missed our planned overnight stay. Still, the staff were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was warm, and the Christmas decorations were classy. Sean was amazing at the piano, and the toffee cake with ice cream was lovely. We tried the tuna tartar, crab salad, pea soup, scallops, and lobster risotto. Everything was excellent, flavorful, thoughtfully prepared, and clearly made with care. We're super disappointed not to have stayed, but grateful for the food, service, and music. Thank you!

Service was passable, though our water glasses sat empty too long. They need to do better, especially if they're hoping for a tip above 10%. The food was okay, but these prices had me expecting much more. Oysters were good and the duck was tasty. The mushroom soup portion was small, the pork chop barely warm, and the medium-rare steak dry. It didn't come close to Ruth's Chris, which was disappointing. It was fine, just not good enough for me to return.
