We booked two rooms for my daughter’s birthday and knew from the reviews to keep expectations modest. The rooms were basic, but clean. Bring extra pillows and your own towels, since they don’t provide extras. The location is hard to beat, right across from the beach, with showers at the end of the street. The pool was pleasant and uncrowded, and the fridge was a good size. The owner came across a little abrasive, though I understand she’s running a business. We left a valuable item behind and got it back while the maids were cleaning. For the price in Cape May, it’s a good value, and I’d stay again.

The view from the deck and the great location are part of why this has become my favorite place in Cape May. I’ve stayed here for years, and Patty always makes it feel like home. She cares about her guests, and when I recently faced some unexpected, difficult circumstances, she went out of her way to support me with real kindness. You don’t come across that kind of hospitality often anymore. I’d highly recommend it.

We spent our anniversary weekend at Stockton and won’t be back. The toilets wouldn’t flush, so I had to keep working on them myself during the stay. There were also ants in the bathroom, and I lost personal items because of the infestation. When I brought it up with the staff, all I got was “oh sorry.” They didn’t offer any compensation or discount for the inconvenience.

The pool was a highlight for our kids, it was clean and well kept, and the room was spacious with a comfortable bed. We booked over the 4th of July weekend, so we knew we were paying a premium for a two-star inn. We’ll come back to Cape May, but probably not to Stockton Inn. The location is great, across from the beach and near the town center. We didn’t need the car once we arrived. The room felt dated, there’s no elevator or microwave, and the door lock didn’t seem very secure. After a random late-night call to the room scared me, I started blocking the door with furniture, though I may have overreacted. There are strict rules, including no check-in after 8pm under any circumstances. It didn’t affect us, but I kept hoping nothing would disrupt our travel plans. They also don’t offer extra towels, but thankfully we’d been warned and brought pool towels from home. Our floor was sandy when we checked in. That’s understandable at a beach hotel, but I still expected it to be clean on arrival.

We’re already planning another visit. The Inn’s location made beach trips easy, just a few minutes from the sand to the room when we needed supplies. There’s a lobster roll place across the street, an even better Asian bowl place, and a decent bagel spot. I liked having chairs outside the room, and the pool was a nice change from the beach. We chose the Inn over the Manor and were glad we did. Our king room for two was spacious, well arranged, and had a nice ocean view. The wall AC was the downside. It’s old and very loud, especially when the condenser kicked in overnight, like a jet taking off. The front desk person at check-in was all business. Some reviews seem surprised by that, but I understand why they enforce policies about non-guests, especially so close to the beach. I’d stayed at a similar place in OCNJ where non-paying visitors used the pool and showers. I also appreciated that our room was cleaned while we were out. I wasn’t expecting fresh towels, honestly, who does that anymore?
