Quality Inn at Collins Road - Cedar Rapids

This small hotel was quiet, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The TV service was good, and it was handy to have a microwave and fridge. There are three table lamps, but no overhead light or reading lamp. The bathroom lighting is adequate, though the counter is tiny and there's no sink plug, so even a toothbrush could go down the drain. The mattress is on hardwood rather than a box spring, so the bed is VERY firm. There's no elevator to the second floor, and late checkout costs $15 even for Choice Rewards members.

We were happy with the room during our two-night stay and would come back. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, and the shower had good water pressure. Breakfast had lots of options, including waffles, several juices, eggs, sausage, biscuits, cereal, yogurt, coffee, muffins, toast, and fruit. I can't remember what else was there.

Jake, who was there from mid-afternoon into early evening, was the only employee I found helpful. The rest were uninformed and rude, and the service was poor. The so-called handicapped room was just a regular room with bathroom rails added. The tub was over 12 inches off the floor, so I couldn't use it as a disabled person. The room was dirty too. Breakfast was disgusting. The waffle mix was watered down so much it was hard to use, all the food was cold, and the eating area was dirty. Never again. I'd rather pay $50 more a night than stay in this pigsty.

The front desk receptionist was great and very friendly. The room was a letdown, though, and only sort of clean. The hallway smelled strongly of pot. A lot of the outlets didn't work or sparked, which was alarming. There were cigarette burns in the bathroom, and the lights were stained with what I hope was rust. The bedside outlet looked like it had been through the ringer.
