Guest reviews
Recent reviews shared by hotel guests
We stayed three nights, and it was totally fine. I came in half-expecting a roach as a roommate because some of the reviews honestly scared me, but the room was average and not gross. The sheets were clean, and there were soft and firm pillow options. I don't usually walk barefoot in hotels anyway, but the floor and walls weren't dirty. The staff were welcoming. One man who'd come from San Antonio Texas was super helpful about the area and things to do, though I forgot his name. Theo, the night desk person, was kind and smiley. He helped us with airport shuttle information and when we locked ourselves out. The continental breakfast was pretty good for free. My sister got waffles, and there was coffee, yogurt, eggs, meats, and the usual things. I'm dairy-free, and they had silk almond milk for me. We picked the hotel for its proximity to the airport, and it was also close to South End and Uptown Charlotte. Some reviews mentioned noise. We couldn't hear the “club” other people talked about from our side of the building, but we could hear the highway and some planes. That's natural, and we both slept fine. No complaints from me.
Our flight was canceled, but we were able to get the shuttle despite hundreds of other people having canceled flights too. Every employee I dealt with was friendly and helpful, and breakfast was decent. A few things in the room were rundown, but it was a fine spot for an overnight.
Please, Google, add negative stars. This one deserves them. We were lied to by the reservation attendant about the location. We specifically asked if it was the one by Texas road house in the same parking lot, and it absolutely was not. We saw signs saying permanently closed when we looked up directions. Someone at another hotel by Springhill told us we didn't want to stay there because it was really bad and there were lots of car robberies. She said she thought it had already closed. When a sister hotel calls it a street hotel and says it was closed, that's bad. Yet they still take a charge. We cancelled the reservation with a refund guarantee. We'll see if we get it within a week, but I've already talked to my financial institution about a fraudulent charge. I got a name and refund guarantee from reservations.com, and we were recording the call. I hate leaving one star. If they hadn't lied to us, I wouldn't even have given one. NOT HAPPENING 😡😡😡😡😡
The gym was in rough shape, with broken machines, no towels or water, one wobbly bench, and very few dumbbells. Several outlets in my room didn't work either, and someone had marked the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash with Sharpie. The Wi-Fi quit on me midday. I called the front desk from my room and got no answer; when I went down, the employee was watching TV in the lobby. There isn't a pool, whatever you may have seen online. Given the state of the gym, I wouldn't want to try swimming in the Beacon's waters anyway. If all you need is a place to sleep for one night and won't use the amenities, it does the job. For working out, watching TV, or using Wi-Fi for work, I'd look elsewhere.
The staff were kind and diligent, and the rooms were clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was the best around. Even though there was plenty of construction nearby, it was surprisingly quiet. There's a store and a Chinese buffet within walking distance, and it's not far from the airport or Uptown. I'd definitely recommend it for a stay of one night or even a month.
