Red Carpet Inn Charlottesville

We got a kitchenette that was well equipped, and the beds were clean and comfortable. The showers were great, too. It's a quiet, pretty hotel in a great spot, and you can park right outside your room. For an inexpensive place without frills, it was excellent value and much better than I expected from the recent reviews.

The only good thing I can say is that there was WiFi. The room was run down, the TV was old, the heating and air were mediocre, and the linen wasn't up to par. I was nervous about even taking a shower in the tub. Worst of all, the odor was so awful I couldn't sleep. It smelled like smoke, cigarettes, regret, and years without cleaning. I wouldn't stay at Red Carpet Inn again or let my dog spend the night there. I'd rather sleep under a bridge.

They didn't have our reservation when we arrived, though luckily I had printed the receipt. In hindsight, I might have been better off if they hadn't let us stay. The furniture was dusty, there were dead bugs, and the pool still had standing water from last year, apparently, and hadn't been prepared for summer. This place was disgusting. I'd sleep in my car before staying here again.

The staff were really friendly, and the grounds were kept up. The old exterior has a bit of charm, but the hotel itself is very dated. I stayed eight years ago and it already felt that way, and I don't think much has changed. Some lights didn't work, the sheets had stains, and the bedding seemed very old. The pillows were flat and worn, and the TV was an old tube set.
