It’s not bad, and they’ve gotten much better about security and checking that everything in your room is satisfactory and working. I stay weekly, and the price is reasonable since all utilities are included. You can bring a dog, and they really don’t care about its size. I love that, since this is the only place around of its kind where I can have my 60 pound dog. It works out great for us.
We’re extremely upset with this place and how we’ve been treated. I was stalked by one of the residents, who knocked on my door and ran off, and the office did nothing. Our phone shorted out, and they talked about moving us to another room, but it never happened. Workers and residents are always going around the building soliciting and using drugs. People throw chicken bones on the ground, yet they threatened to kick us out over dog droppings even though we aren’t the only ones with a dog. There are drug addicts, severe roach infestation, bed bugs, and sirens blaring all hours of the night. Key cards keep deactivating when near our cell phones, TV, or microwave. They also charge a $150 non-refundable pet deposit. I’m interested in contacting the owners or someone above. I wouldn’t recommend this place to save my life.
We went two months without air conditioning. Whenever we reported that it wasn’t working, the so-called maintenance man kept adding Freon and saying it would work. We later found bed bugs on the bed, then got kicked out because they claimed the bugs weren’t there. Pictures say otherwise. They’d been there a long time before we were put in the room. There was also mold that hadn’t been cleaned, and the rude, disrespectful people running the place, including security, act like they’re something else. This place is a joke!
Inside the room, almost nothing was in good shape. The carpet was filthy and stained, the surfaces were sticky, the furniture was heavily used, and the mattress was uncomfortable. The TV worked, but it was old and outdated. We had only two pillows for a king bed, one much smaller than the other. My wife said the box spring looked covered in projectile diarrhea. The comforter had stains, permanent marker, and cigarette burns. The bathroom was mostly clean but still in disrepair. The toilet seat had cigarette burns, and the grout on the restaurant-kitchen-style floor was black. They’d replaced the sink with an industrial stainless steel one that was too deep for the counter, propping it up with several look 3/4 inch tiles. The tiles, sink, and faucet were loose and insecure. There were wall hangers for metal artwork but no artwork. One of two dressers was being used as a TV stand, but there was no TV in it, just open space and a backing with a square hole. We arrived late at night to find three receptionists(?) outside the lobby, cooking hamburgers and hot dogs. The lobby was closed, and staff had me fill out my own check-in form on a chair because they were too busy(?) to unlock it and let me use the counter. The staff were unprofessional, and the receptionist failed twice to scan my credit card before it finally went through. Afterward, I drove into the gated lot. Most of the air conditioners leaked, and extension cables were taped along the walls into the rooms. Honestly, I didn’t realize hotels this nasty still existed. As I told my wife, "This is laughably bad." I suggest staying away and going to the Motel 6 just down the road.
We checked in after dark, probably around 10pm, and checked out as soon as daylight came through the window above the hot-air-dispensing AC. Somehow we slept and neither of us was murdered. This was by far my most harrowing hotel experience. I’ll drive through to the next town on my next road trip. I wish I could rate it lower. It was March, 2012. We entered where the front foyer would be, but a large black male wearing a security shirt that looked like it came from Hot Topic stopped us. The front desk area was completely dark. When we asked for a room, he said, "Fitty bucks, cash only." We handed him fifty dollars and got a key to a room on the second of three floors. We moved the car deeper into the locked lot, away from direct street view, while screams and cries of crime could be heard. Maybe something was happening behind a door, or maybe it was the ghostly howl of crimes from years past. We hid our valuables, crept to the room, and slid the key into the door. It slunk open, and the smell of cat urine and cigarette ash hit us. We locked as many of the haphazard locks as we could. The TV and furniture were all moist. I sat in a desk chair that might have been listed as a loveseat on the website while my girlfriend showered. Then I showered with the door open, in case someone broke in. I didn’t know what I’d do naked and soaking wet if it happened, but I’d rather hear a rapist enter through the front door than be surprised by him in the shower. I’d reserve Chattanooga Country Hearth Inn only for my worst enemies. You might feel safer in the local jail, so consider petty theft to secure that arrangement on your next Chattanooga stay.
