Nagle Warren Mansion B&B

The Nagle Warren mansion is handy for walking downtown, and the formal tea was a lot of fun and well done. The rubber ducks make a terrific souvenir, too. We had a terrific stay, with attentive staff and great conversations. The Innkeeper knows a lot about the manor’s history and the famous guests who’ve stayed there. And though it isn’t mentioned in that history, E.T. stays here now and then.

I loved the sitting rooms, lovely spots to have coffee and read a book, and breakfast was first class. The beautiful room was part of a carefully restored home that’s part of Cheyenne’s past, just a few blocks from everything downtown. I had a delightful meal conversation with a couple from Wales. The visit was wonderful, though far too short. I can’t wait to return next year.

The history and decor may wow other guests, but we found the basic standards lacking. Our room smelled strongly of gas, and when we complained, we were told all the rooms smell that way. The windows wouldn’t open, and the smell made my asthma worse. The room and hotel felt tired, the linens needed refreshing, and the bathroom floor was filthy. The areas we had to pass through between the front and back of the house looked cluttered and dirty, and the outside also seemed uncared for. There was no coffee maker in the room, and no way to make a hot drink outside breakfast hours. Breakfast was too rich for us, with sausage too spicy to eat. When we skipped it the following day, nobody asked why or what we might prefer. For us, this ‘boutique’ B&B didn’t match the website or reviews.

The highlight for me was the innkeeper, Chef Jas. He’s a delightful host, and his stories and hospitality made the stay. The Warren Room is gorgeous, and it’s fun to know President Taft once slept there. Staying there feels like stepping into history. It’s also the nicest place to stay in Cheyenne. We absolutely loved our visit.
