Town House Motel Chico

The one thing that worked out was being allowed to bring my dog, and the rate was somewhat cheap. It came to $60 a night plus taxes and other extra charges. I stayed for a few days during a heat wave of 105 degrees and higher that lasted over a week, hoping for a break in an air-conditioned room. No luck: the AC blew hot air. When I called the office, they said it was hot in their apartment too and insisted it was working because it was so hot outside, but nobody came to check. The room was somewhat clean, with no dust, though I found trash and a spiral notebook. The fridge barely got cold, the towels were gross, and the WiFi didn't work. They didn't seem concerned or even to hear me when I asked about it. There also seemed to be lots of long-term or very regular customers.

It was graduation weekend and I ended up here as a last resort. The dirty walls and heater/AC filters, outdated condition, and general feeling of grime made it clear why this was the only place with rooms. Fresh paint and new linens could help a lot, but the owners would need to invest some money. I won't stay here again.

We paid $150 for a one-bedroom room during graduation weekend, when other places had doubled their rates. It was affordable, easy to park at, and close to Chico State and shopping. We arrived around midnight twice and felt safe, with no strange people hanging around. The AC, fridge, and microwave all looked fine and worked, and the place was generally clean. I went in expecting the worst from the reviews, but it was a pretty decent stay. The towels did have dark stains that looked like they wouldn't come out in the wash, so bring your own. There were a few small physical flaws, like damage in the middle of the bathroom door and screw holes where things had probably been mounted. The outside isn't especially stylish. I'd stay again if money were tight and I needed a place to sleep. It's not pretty, but it felt safe and clean aside from the towels, and it was affordable.

For $78, I wasn't dissatisfied, and I'm not especially picky. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, and the shower had decent pressure with really warm water. The front desk woman was friendly both by phone and in person. There was a coffee maker with coffee, cups, and sugar. I did see blood stains on the bathroom walls, and the towels looked worn. I didn't notice any bugs. I haven't tried the TV and probably won't. If you stay, ask for the internet password when you get your key.
