Fairfield Inn & Suites Columbia

Both TVs in our room were out. I called the front desk, and the woman said I could unplug one or switch rooms. It was already 10:30 p.m. and we were in bed, but she wouldn’t replace even one TV or bring a temporary one. At 11 p.m. we called down because my kids were freezing and needed a blanket. They’d only been given a sheet for the pullout bed. It took 40 minutes to get a blanket, after I’d spent 10 minutes on hold and then been disconnected. This was our second stay here. The first was great, but this one really wasn’t. Right outside our door there was a very strong natural gas smell that made us feel sick. The front desk woman said it was normal. We also didn’t get the room we’d asked for, and a girls’ softball team was being loud in the lobby. She assured us we wouldn’t be near them, but our room was right across from them. When we went back out for our things, the gas smell was still strong. My husband called the desk again, and she said there was a natural gas plant next door and the fire department had approved it, but she didn’t know the plant’s name. I searched for it and called; they said that strong a smell outside wasn’t normal and sent someone to check. We never learned whether there was a problem, but we didn’t smell it again afterward. I’m very disappointed and won’t recommend this hotel anymore.

I’m on the road transporting things all over the country, so I sleep in hotels most nights. This one was clean and comfortable. The windows are thin, though, so I’d suggest avoiding a room facing the freeway. I’ll keep it in mind for future stays.

We were on our way to Florida and had driven six hours before reaching the Fairfield by Marriot in Columbia TN for the night. There were vacancies online, but we walked in at 11:30 p.m. to book a room. The front desk told us they had no rooms until midnight and suggested the Hampton Inn next door. I usually stay at Fairfield when traveling, so I’d specifically wanted this hotel. It made no sense and was very disappointing. We walked into the other hotel and got a room right away.

The room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean, and there’s easy access to local businesses and the major highway. Staff were stellar. Breakfast in the morning had boiled and scrambled eggs, waffles you make yourself, cereal, coffee, tea, and fruit. A great spot for work in Columbia.
