Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Columbus Fort Benning

We ended up here unexpectedly in mid-September after evacuating Florida because of hurricane Irma. It was a relief to find somewhere pet friendly at short notice, and the staff were welcoming and accommodating with my family and dog. We had a quiet, comfortable stay. For a 2-star hotel, my only complaint is that the hallway carpets were a bit dirty. Our group used 4 rooms over the 3 days. Each had a normal size refrigerator, a microwave oven, and a 2 burner stove.

I loved the outdoor pool and lounging area, and the lobby felt welcoming, modern, and a little funky, with lots of places to sit with friends and family. We stayed 3 days while I was in GA for my son’s Army Graduation, and I’d book here again if I go back. The rooms were nicely done and always clean. Staff were helpful, friendly, and professional, and breakfast was great.

The location was handy, the rooms clean, and breakfast good. Most of the staff were friendly, especially housekeeping. The person at the desk was great at check-in, but less helpful in the morning. We asked for towels and were told housekeeping was making rounds and would come soon, but it took over an hour to get them. We also ran out of toilet tissue and facial tissue; neither was refilled, so I had to take a roll from a housekeeper’s cart. It was an okay place to stay.

The suite looked roomy and nice, and clean enough that I didn’t feel like turning around and leaving. Regular rooms seemed kind of sketchy, though. The price was great and the location good, but the sign is easy to miss. The lobby was okay, while the hall and elevator carpets were dirty, torn, and smelled weird. Walls were patched and dirty, too. Fine for a short notice, low budget stay, but I probably won’t return.
