SpringHill Suites by Marriott Denver Airport

Ashton at the front desk seemed more focused on charging the “smoke free environment fee” than on helping me. My clothes smelled of smoke when I came in, but I hadn't smoked in or near the hotel. Within an hour, my card had been charged $250. I had spoken with him at the desk, but he never mentioned anything then. Instead, we went up to our room, and he knocked on the door. When I answered, he said, “yep smells like weed I'm charging you.” I asked why he hadn't brought it up downstairs. He told me, “well I had to see what room you were in so I could charge you.” It felt like an “I gotcha” moment.

The breakfast was pretty good, and the attendant was courteous and attentive, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel or stay again. I travel often as an airline pilot and stay at a lot of hotels, especially Marriott, and this one fell short. The receptionist was not welcoming and a little rude. I booked a king room but was given two queens. The beds were small and hard, the pillows bulky and uncomfortable, and the thin walls let us hear what sounded like a waterfall whenever the room above flushed. Neither of us slept well. The furnishings and accessories felt cheap, especially for one of the area's more expensive Marriotts.

I had booked a room months ahead for a very early flight home after visiting family in Denver for Christmas, but arriving at 8PM I found the small parking lot completely full, with cars circling. Two kind but flustered front desk agents told me the hotel had oversold parking and that 40 other people were still on their way. Thankfully, I found a room at a competitor, and the staff cancelled my reservation at no cost. It seemed to me management was more interested in making money from long-term parking than actually providing rooms for guests. From what I saw, the newer hotel's lot was filthy and strewn with trash, and the lobby was rough too. I was very disappointed, and lucky to find another room at the last minute.

United put us up here after we missed a connection because of a faulty plane. The shuttle service was good, and the room was large enough for my scooter. The one inconvenient thing was that ice was only available on the 1st floor. The breakfast buffet had good food and a nice range of choices. The morning attendant was great, helpful, and attentive to each customer.
