Relax Inn

The price is hard to beat, and they welcome dogs. My room was clean, though the wear was obvious: cracks in the walls, loose outlets that barely held my charger, and a door that wobbled alarmingly even when locked. The service was friendly. I'd stay again for the price, just don't expect luxury.

Run, don't rent here. Management, especially Bill, is horrible and has no respect for customers or the hotel. My husband and I paid for a week. The first night I asked to move because a bed had a spring sticking out, and Bill said there were no rooms. The next morning I could see three rooms available, but he still refused. Two days later I asked again because the mattress was hurting my back, and he turned me down even though eight rooms were open. We got no housekeeping the entire seven days. When I asked, he said it was too cold for the staff to work and we'd have to deal with it. The rooms were filthy, the beds were awful and broken down, the carpet was stained and nasty, and the heating system didn't work. The manager was drunk and rude, and his own staff don't like him. No customer service at all.

I slept through the night without any noise from outside or nearby rooms, and the bed was comfortable. The internet was faster and more reliable than I've had at places costing much more. The building is run down and the room was dim, but clean. Towels and linens were fresh, and the sink, toilet, and tub were shiny, clean, and unchipped. I didn't see signs of bed bugs, despite what some other reviews said. I've had worse rooms at Motel 6, Days Inn, and Super 8 for two or three times the cost. My room was worth what I paid, and then some. The very low price may give people a worse impression of the motel than its condition deserves, so raising it a little might help its image.

The staff were kind and matter-of-fact, and the price is low. The accommodations are mediocre, though, and the buildings seem to be deteriorating from the inside. This is a great location, but the rooms feel close to being health hazards. I hope they consider rebuilding. Design, materials, power use and distribution, plumbing, sewage, and room amenities have all moved on. A new build could be cheaper and easier to maintain, with a fraction of the ongoing support costs, while improving the environment and quality of life for everyone. The place could burn down and give Dickinson a look at the future, instead of charging $100 a night for the same mediocrity as nearby places.
