Tru by Hilton Duluth Mall Area

This is a good spot for a stopover or a couple of nights, with a comfortable bed, nice TV, bright clean bathroom, and in-wall AC and heat you can set to whatever temperature you want. There are easy-to-reach USB chargers and outlets, plus I liked the laminate floors and tile bathroom instead of carpet. The lobby has a good snack bar and a comfortable seating area. The workout room is basic but has free weights, a treadmill, elliptical, and Peloton. The rooms have a Scandic feel, and the hotel is central to everything, though close to nothing.

The breakfast was pretty good, and my room was okay. The lobby, though, was very dirty. Salt had built up across the tiles from weeks of foot traffic, then spread to the elevators and the carpet on every floor. They need proper entry mats and a daily mop. Staff seemed to sit around behind the desk, though cleaning the floor properly would take about an hour.

We booked at the last minute because of a snowstorm. The room was clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. In the morning my car wouldn't start, but Brian came outside and got it going with a jump. He made sure we could leave before going back into the building. The staff's generosity alone would make me recommend this hotel.

The room had a cracked sink and two dirty towels hanging behind the door, and the soap dispensers were absurdly hard to use. In every hallway there were tufts that looked like chunks of dog tail. Staff were on their phones and seemed annoyed when approached. The lobby chairs were all stained and terribly uncomfortable, and the whole place felt designed to look cool without anyone considering comfort. The price was about the same as the much nicer Hilton we had just stayed at in Hawaii. We stayed August 1, 2025. Seeing Hilton in the news this week brought back memories of this awful stay. Never again.
