We could leave one of our two cars in the parking lot after checking out and heading to the beach, and they let us check in early after our long drive. It was quiet at night and close to lots of good restaurants and the highway. The room had the basic amenities and a really comfortable bed. For a quick Cape visit, it was perfect for the night, and the price was hard to beat compared with the more expensive hotels in the area.

I chose the Rosewood Motel after a lot of online research, when a family illness meant I needed to be in the area for an uncertain amount of time. Summer brought few vacancies and high prices because of the Cape attractions, so the reasonable rate and convenient spot right off Hwy 6 worked well for me. Despite what some past negative reviews say, ownership must have changed. My room was small and plain, but efficient, quiet, comfortable, and VERY clean. I got fresh bath linens every day and the bed was made. There was a generously sized refrigerator and microwave, A/C, and windows that actually opened, which I prefer. The other guests were quiet and respectful. Hwy 6 might sound noisy, but it was really quiet after around 10pm. Management or assistance was available 24 hours. I’ve visited the Cape many times, and while a fancier place can be fun, I’d rather spend my money on lobster rolls since I spend so little time in a hotel. Rosewood was perfect for what I needed, and I’d definitely plan to stay there again if I have the need or opportunity.

The reservation was easy to make a few days ahead for a weekend trip, the rates were decent, and the motel also takes bookings through third party platforms. But my stay at the Rosewood Motel ended before it began, and I’m canceling. I travel often for work and have a disability that means I need service animals. I prefer pet-friendly properties because they’re more compassionate toward my pets, though that isn’t always possible. In Wareham, the Rosewood was the only option within my budget. I noted the service animals on my itinerary and was immediately told I’d need to provide a “State-Issued ID” for one. I’m happy to provide documentation, and although nobody has asked before, I always bring it to check-in with my license and credit card information. I registered my animals with a voluntary registry for extra security and peace of mind, but there are hundreds of such registries and no designated federal or state official database. The “State Issued ID” motel staff requested doesn’t exist. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts doesn’t issue official ID cards for service animals. At first the question might seem harmless, but anyone familiar with the ADA knows the request is wrong. The American’s with Disabilities Act protects disabled people and their service animals, and gives businesses clear guidelines for asking about someone’s need. It permits two specific questions, but prohibits requiring proof of training, certification, or licensing because that creates barriers for people who rely on service animals. I could simply show the documentation I do have, but the encounter gave me the impression staff are insensitive and negligent, think they’re exempt from basic hospitality procedures and accommodation protocols, and don’t respect guest rights. I’m afraid we’ve already started off on the wrong foot, and I don’t want to face further discrimination or retaliation over my feedback.

The microwave and refrigerator looked as if they’d never been cleaned, so I was afraid to touch them. There was a large brown stain on the box spring under the mattress, and I was horrified to use the bedding, so I put my own sheets over the mattress. In the bathroom, the towels were stained, the curtain had mold, and the bathtub had lots of brown spots. As soon as I opened the door, a dank mildew smell hit me. This place was a dump and not worth the $150 a both they’re charging. I’d rather sleep in my car.
