Holiday Inn Express & Suites Elkhart North by IHG

The rooms feel modern, with updated furniture, comfortable beds, two beds for guests traveling together, and heating that works quickly. There are plenty of handy outlets, and housekeeping came regularly. My stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites was a 10/10. No complaints about the comfort, quality, or amenities, and I highly recommend it.

We came to Holiday Inn in Elkhart for a long weekend with our hockey team, and this was probably our best hockey hotel weekend in a long time. The rooms were clean, breakfast was amazing, and the staff were exceptional.

We ended up at Granger Holiday Inn, where the service was awesome and the rooms were clean. I’d steer people there and away from this hotel. At check-in, the first room’s bathroom had debris on the floor and hair in the shower, and the AC had mold and an odd smell. We checked another room, but its shower also had hair and its AC had mold. The third room smelled better and was somewhat cleaner, so we took it. After showering, I found that one towel smelled terrible, like fish, when I went to dry my face. The other two were okay, though not very fresh. We decided we couldn’t stay. An employee said the reservation was canceled and we’d get our money and points back, and that I should call the next morning to speak to the manager. I called and reached the receptionist, who said they’d call in an hour because the manager was handling breakfast. When I called an hour later, she said the manager was still dealing with breakfast and nothing had been done to get my refund. I specifically asked for the manager because it seemed ridiculous that they wouldn’t come to the phone. She put me on hold, then said they were busy with breakfast and would call back. They never did. It took three days to resolve. I’ve had similar situations settled with a full refund the same day. Even after two calls to the front desk and IHG Customer Service contacting the manager, they still hadn’t canceled my stay. I won’t return. It also surprises me that this place has over four stars. I should have read more reviews.

The two guys in the kitchen were the only good part of our stay. They did their jobs properly and should be put in charge. We drove two days to get there, and the billing mess started right away. We paid for a week over Christmas, with no other choice, but it felt like a hustle. Don’t trust the online price or quote; what they charged didn’t match it. The room was dirty, smelled strange, and had carpet stains. The towels were dirty and smelled bad too. The pool was an odd color, and the chemicals didn’t smell properly mixed. My eyesight isn’t great, but my sense of smell makes up for it. If you need rest, the thin walls and ceilings won’t help. The front desk staff were rude and no help at all. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I hope this saves someone else a bad stay and wasted money. People have different experiences, so this is mine, and I don’t understand the good reviews.
