Sycamore Suites

The continental breakfast was good, and our room was perfect and clean. The hotel is in a great central spot for getting to the interstate and highways, but tucked away enough to stay quiet. They’re doing renovations at the moment, so unfortunately the indoor pool was closed.

Friendly staff, a great free breakfast, and clean, spacious rooms made this the best place to stay around here. There’s full cable with HBO and Cinemax, and plenty of parking, even with my trailer. Food and a gas/convenience store are nearby.

The rates are great and the location is super, close to shopping and dining. They have a washer and dryer, but be careful, people staying at the hotel may take over the machines you’re using and put their laundry in with yours. The woman who added her clothes to my wash wasn’t too happy when she came back for her stuff. There was no trash can for lint or rubbish either, so it was on the floor. The service was horrible. When my husband or I went to the desk for a towel or washcloth, the staff member stayed seated in the dining area and called out, “Hello, can I help you?” They could have gotten up and helped us. I asked for sugar, not artificial sweetener, and there wasn’t any out. The male staff member went to the back and had a total meltdown, throwing things around and slamming doors to show how unhappy he was that I’d bothered him. We stayed five nights and asked for room service once. We basically had to beg. The housekeeper came in but only added toilet paper. There was mold on the shower curtain. My husband and I run a small cabin rental business, and we wash shower curtains after every guest or throw them away if they can’t be cleaned. The fridge was tiny and looked like it dated from the 1980s. The first-floor ice maker was broken. That’s not usually a big deal, but my husband had stayed one night in April this year and it was broken then too. Staff also let guests smoke in their rooms. A male staff member told me the strong cigarette smell came from people smoking outside and bringing it back in on their clothes, which seemed to assume I was incredibly dumb. I included a photo of cigarette packs, and I saw people smoking in the halls. The people smoking seemed to either live there or be friends or family of the owners. They say they’re dog friendly, but there wasn’t a trash can for our dog’s waste. Police were at the hotel on two consecutive days looking for someone. They kept banging on the door across from ours, but the guy wouldn’t answer. I knew he was there because I saw him. They’re putting in a rec room, but perhaps they should use that money to improve the hotel so they can charge more and get rid of the riffraff. You get what you pay for when the rate is $70 a night.

We were just passing through on a long road trip, and this place was worth what we paid. The breakfast was good, and the front desk service was fantastic. The woman working there was helpful and friendly, still cheerful when we arrived around 2 a.m. as the last guests of the night. Our room was very clean and had everything we needed, though there was a lot of hair in the shower. The walls were thin, and other guests were loud in the middle of the night. I’d stay here again for a night while passing through, but if we were spending a few days, we might pay a little more for somewhere nicer.
