Comfort Suites Lake Worth

No hot water for our whole two-night stay, so we couldn't shower and had to cancel my birthday plans. We drove three hours to stay at a hotel without hot water, and I'm very unhappy with the experience. They said they couldn't refund us because we booked through booking.com. The elevators didn't work either. Check-in was a mess. The system was down when we arrived, so we were told to come back in 30 minutes. We went to eat and returned, but although we could check in then, no room was ready. They asked us to wait another half hour. My husband went back to ask, and they finally found us a “clean” room. Absolutely horrible. We stayed two nights for my birthday weekend and will never stay there again.

The outside and lawn looked great when we drove up, and the lobby seemed clean and tidy. The room told a different story. There was a significant soft spot under the AC unit, though it wasn't wet, so I thought it might have been wet before and never fixed. The window was filthy, and under the bathroom counter we found a three-quarter-used roll of toilet paper and a wad of dirty used paper. For such a large room, the 32-inch TV seemed too small. The beds were so hard my scoliosis flared and I could barely walk in the morning. The pool had so much chlorine that the smell drifted down the hallway, and our eyes burned if we stayed longer than an hour. Hallways kept at 74° seem crazy for Texas. When we checked out after our sixth wedding anniversary stay, the front desk guy had no warmth at all, not a good morning or a word about our stay. We told him we were leaving; he took the key card, found my dollar bill in the holder, and handed it to my husband without speaking. Then he turned away and sat back down in a recycling chair. We hadn't complained about anything, so that lack of hospitality was off-putting. This place looks very different online than in person. I was disappointed and would look at other nearby hotels. In my opinion, it only gets three stars because things that could easily be fixed or maintained better were neglected.

The hot tub never got warm enough for us, which was the one downside. Otherwise, we were comfortable for a week and the place met all our needs. Staff were friendly, and I saw several of them cleaning and taking care of the trash. We didn't see any bugs and never felt unsafe. The bed was firm, but didn't seem worn out. The kitchen was large, though it wasn't stocked, and there's a Walmart very close by. We're glad we found it and didn't let the negative reviews put us off.

While I was in the lobby, I saw Dave help someone who was having trouble with asthma and complained about a chemical odor. He quickly moved them to the next available room, and they were off to meet the sandman. Way to go, Dave! Earlier, with the lot full, the night desk associate Dave let me park my motorcycle under the breezeway so my belongings felt more secure. He went above and beyond to help us. What a guy!
